The study aims to offer an up-to-date analysis of poverty and precarious living conditions in Rhineland-Palatinate. The methodical starting point is the German stratification approach which focuses on a detailed collection of data on the individual living circumstances. Different data resources are used as they compliment each other. The main resources are the German Mikrozensus, the Einkommens- und Verbrauchsstichprobe, the Sozioökonomische Panel and social welfare statistics. Poverty analysis are performed for different socio-economic groups such as single parents, families, children and adolescents, people in paid work and out of work, the elderly and migrants.
