The long educational and internships for physicians make it difficult to react quickly and adequately to shortages in physicians. Therefore, it is important to recognize such shortages early, or to be able to predict them. Only then can appropriate counter-measures be taken. With the help of quantitative and qualitative prognoses of the future need for physicians and the future supply of physicians, a corresponding information basis can be created. A concept for the founding of such an information basis, which can be continuously recorded in the sense of monitoring, is being developed.
