In a knowledge society marked by technical progress and constantly increasing requirements on its human capital, the life long learning path plays a central role. For Germany, whose international competitiveness is based on the quality of its human capital, this factor is of particular significance. Nonetheless, it can be seen in Germany that:

  • Professional advanced training activities are below average within the context of Europe.
  • Advanced training continues to be unequally distributed and concentrates itself on certain groups of persons.
  • The area of advanced training is only partially captured through statistics and existing data and definitional boundaries are not completely compatible.

The activities of IWAK concentrate on these areas. An emphasis lays also on improvements in the informational basis in the professional training area and the creation of more transparency in the professional training market — as far as possible also at the local level. IWAK can offer the evaluation and analysis of existing data stores, as well as the generation of current and differentiated information (conducting and analysis of representative company or personnel surveys, assembling expert panels, etc.) and the implementation of complex information systems in the area of further qualification. An additional competency area is the development of target group specific further qualification (unskilled und low-educated, older workers, women, etc.). The spectrum here covers the development of specific incentive systems to spur on the willingness to qualification measures, and extends through the execution of concrete model projects and their evaluation. A third emphasis rests on the consulting and support of companies (especially small and medium-sized businesses) and actors in the training areas (concept building and problem analysis, consulting, moderation and training).

  • Analysis of (future) qualification needs for enterprises
  • Conducting process and results evaluations in the further training area
  • Development and execution of target group specific further trainings programs (e.g., older workers, unskilled, part-time employees, etc.)
  • Further training and qualification consulting for small and middle-sized enterprises
  • Personnel developmental concepts
